Kamudakara is a story about a Japanese-American woman Rinko, and her journey to find her place in two worlds. She takes care of her aging father and runs the household, yet she has fostered a desire to go outside and explore the Western world which she is fearful of but also curious about. At its heart, Kamudakara is about the dilemma and guilt of grownup children towards their aging parents. This inevitability is set in an immigrant context, where the differences in lifestyle, language, and gender roles come into play.
